Choosing an Organisation Development programme is not simply a question of institution, credential, location or delivery mode. It can also be a choice about the kind of practitioner one is preparing to become. The September 2026 edition of the Global Organisation Development Programme Choice Directory brings together 317 publicly discoverable OD and OD-related programmes across eight regions. It does not rank programmes or accredit providers. Instead, it helps prospective participants move from “Which program me is best?” toward the more useful question:
“What kind of formation, practice and judgement do I need for the work I want to become capable of doing?”
The Directory makes visible differences that programme titles alone often conceal: intellectual and paradigm orientation, behavioural-science inquiry, practitioner formation, Use of Self, faculty ecology, supervision, consequential client-system practice, intervention scope and the public evidence through which these claims can be inspected. It also offers broad research avenues to discerning students of OD.
Its governing principle remains liberal discovery, conservative classification: uncertainty is retained rather than converted into judgement, and absence of publicly observable evidence is not treated as evidence of absence.
What changed in September?
The programme field has expanded from 308 to 317 programmes. More importantly, the Directory now makes its definition of OD, assumptions about practitioner formation and intellectual/paradigm orientations more explicit. The House of Integral Formation for OD Education provides a coherent way of examining theory, inquiry, faculty formation, practitioner maturation and consequential praxis.
A new participant pathway— PURPOSE → ORIENTATION → FORMATION → PRACTICE → FIT —helps readers narrow the global field before inspecting technical classifications and source evidence.
